Meet the Judges: Spotlight on Irene Mérida Calvo

As part of our special series celebrating the outstanding members of the Digital Education Awards Judges Panel, today we are delighted to spotlight Irene Mérida Calvo, a GLA and bilingual education leader dedicated to driving curriculum innovation, teacher development, and equitable support for English learners.
With more than 15 years of international experience across Spain, the UK, the UAE, and the U.S., Irene has built a career at the intersection of culturally responsive curriculum design, instructional leadership, and educational equity. At International Leadership of Texas, she serves as a Grade Level Administrator, where she leads curriculum development, manages the placement and progress of over 400 English learners annually as Chair of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC), and empowers a team of educators to deliver impactful teaching and learning.
A passionate advocate for the transformative role of technology in education, Irene has pioneered virtual and data-driven solutions that improved math outcomes for English learners by 87%. Her achievements have earned her recognition as a Master Teacher by the Texas Education Agency, alongside being named Teacher of the Year on two occasions.
Beyond her school leadership, Irene is the founder of Global Bridges Educational Solutions (GBES), an initiative dedicated to advancing inclusive education worldwide through training, consulting, and curriculum services that bridge language gaps and foster systemic change.
Through her expertise, innovation, and unwavering commitment to student success, Irene Mérida Calvo brings invaluable perspective to our judging panel, helping shape a future for digital education that is inclusive, transformative, and globally connected.
