Meet the Judges: Spotlight on Dr Steven Robert Herron

As part of our special series celebrating the outstanding individuals on the Digital Education Awards Judges Panel, today we are proud to spotlight Dr. Steven Robert Herron, Dean at UK Graduate College, a respected leader in higher education and digital learning innovation.


Dr. Herron is a distinguished figure in global education, bringing more than 20 years of experience in advancing academic excellence, standards, and innovation across both classroom-based and digital modes of delivery. He holds an EdD, a Senior Advance HE Fellowship, two MAs, a PGCert in Online Learning, and four teaching qualifications, reflecting his deep commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Throughout his career, Dr. Herron has spearheaded initiatives that establish and sustain high-performing academic environments. His leadership has included driving continuously above-KPI results in new embedded colleges, branch campuses, innovative international partnerships, and academic programmes designed to enhance student engagement and diversify global education markets.


Previously, Dr. Herron held senior roles at leading organisations including Oxford International Education Group, where he served as Director of Learning, Teaching & Academic Affairs, QA Higher Education as Head of Pathway College at Northumbria University, and INTO University Partnerships as Digital Project Lead and Senior Programme/Teacher across the UK centre network. In each of these roles, he has been instrumental in shaping impactful strategies for learning and teaching.


Through his wide-ranging contributions as an academic leader, innovator, and mentor, Dr. Steven Robert Herron enriches our judging panel with a strategic and future-focused perspective. His expertise ensures that innovation in digital education is not only ambitious but also practical, impactful, and grounded in student success.
